About Quilter

At Quilter, we are helping electrical engineers save time and accomplish more by automating the tedious and time-consuming task of designing printed circuit boards (PCBs). Our small team is composed of experts in electrical engineering, electromagnetic simulation, ML/AI, and high-performance computing (HPC). We are inventing and leveraging novel techniques to solve the decades-old problem of automating circuit board design where today hundreds of billions of dollars are spent. We have raised $25 million in Series B funding from some of the very best and are charging full-speed toward our goal.

No matter where we come from, we're united by a common vision for the future and a core set of values we think will get us there:

• Curiosity

• Conviction

• Rigor

We’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer to work directly with our go-to-market team and customers to turn integration blockers into production fixes and features. Our File I/O team connects Quilter with tools including Altium, KiCad, Cadence Allegro, and Siemens Xpedition, preserving design intent as files move into Quilter and results return to the customer’s CAD workflow.

You’ll work primarily in Python on parsers, exporters, design models, diagnostics, and workflow automation. This role suits someone who enjoys jumping into ambiguous technical problems, collaborating directly with customers, and seeing their engineering work make an immediate difference. You’ll contribute to broader improvements in CAD coverage and fidelity as well as resolving urgent blockers.

You’ll also help build workflows using LLMs and agents to investigate failures, find recurring patterns, and automate repetitive integration work, with reliable checks on the results.

Location: This is a hybrid role based out of our Long Beach, CA office, with regular in-person collaboration alongside our go-to-market team.

What You’ll Do

• Investigate and resolve customer blockers. Work with customers and GTM to reproduce failures, inspect design data and logs, and identify the cause. Fix File I/O issues and coordinate with partner teams when a problem crosses system boundaries.

• Ship integration features and fixes. Own Python changes from design through rollout, including parsers, exporters, and shared representations of boards, schematics, and constraints. Make sound implementation tradeoffs and contribute through code reviews.

• Verify the complete design workflow. Turn representative customer cases into acceptance checks and regression tests. Validate that design information survives import and that exported results remain usable in the customer’s native CAD tool.

• Turn recurring problems into better tooling. Improve diagnostics and error messages, automate reproductions, and build agentic investigation workflows. Use evaluations and feedback loops to make troubleshooting faster and more reliable.

• Connect customers’ existing workflows to Quilter. Build reusable scripts and integrations for design-data preparation and handoffs. Use repeated customer needs to identify capabilities worth supporting in the shared product.

• Work closely with GTM and engineering. Help the team prioritize urgent blockers and larger improvements, agree on scope and commitments, and explain findings clearly. Pair with customers, demonstrate fixes, and document workflows they can use independently.

What We’re Looking For

• Deep production Python experience, with ownership of maintainable software from design through testing and rollout.

• Experience working directly with customers, partners, or technical users to understand a workflow, diagnose integration problems, and deliver working software.

• Strong debugging skills across unfamiliar code, files, and structured data. You can isolate causes and test hypotheses with incomplete information.

• Clear communication and sound judgment under time pressure. You explain uncertainty, coordinate priorities and dependencies, and follow through on both immediate fixes and lasting improvements.

• Practical experience with LLMs and agentic workflows, including evaluating results and improving the tools and feedback loops around them.

Nice to Have

These are useful backgrounds, not a checklist—we don’t expect any one candidate to bring all of them.

• Hands-on familiarity with PCB design workflows and ECAD tools.

• Experience with parsers, proprietary file formats, vendor APIs, or CAD scripting.

• Experience in customer or integration engineering, including troubleshooting in environments with restricted access to systems or design data.

• Experience building regression corpora, diagnostic tools, or agent harnesses and evals.

What Success Looks Like

Customer blockers turn into verified production improvements. More designs move successfully through import, Quilter, and native export; recurring failures decrease, and the tests, diagnostics, and workflow tools you build help the whole team resolve the next issue faster.

Please note: We are an equal opportunity employer. At this time, we are focused on hiring primarily within the US, with occasional exception to accommodate exceptional talent.

What we offer:

• Interesting and challenging work

• Competitive salary and equity benefits

• Health, dental, and vision insurance

• Regular team events and offsites (~4x / year)

• Unlimited paid time off

• Paid parental leave
